Highlights of the CISD Board Meeting - November 2024

Dear CISD Community,
Welcome to our monthly school board meeting newsletter. This edition brings you some highlights of the school board meeting that was held on November 11th. Our goal is to keep you connected and informed each month.

New Comfort ISD school board members took the oath of office on Nov. 11th during the regular school board meeting. Shown are District 6: Kristina Patton, District 1: Larry Thayn, District 4: Jeremy Hill, and District 5: Charlotte Kneupper.
89th Legislative Priorities Approved
The school board approved three resolutions as a collective effort to join other school districts across the state to advocate for a teacher retention funding allotment, increase the basic allotment for public schools, and increase the financial support for school safety. The 89th legislative session will begin meeting on January 14, 2025 through June 2, 2025.

Information Items
  • Superintendent Dr. Munoz reported on upcoming district events.
  • Director of Academic Services Dr. Boothe gave a brief report about the bilingual/ESL program requirements and the second common assessment student results.
  • Director of Administrative and Support Services Mr. Colvin gave information about the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA), the counselor annual assessment of compliance, intruder detection audit, safety and security committee meeting, assistant principal meetings, and counselor meetings.
  • The Taher Food Services Director Mrs. Esquivel gave an update on snack bar, meal counts, a future chef visit, and the CTE advisory committee meeting that she attended.
  • Director or Maintenance and Operations Mr. Wilson gave an overview of the various projects, work orders, and audits around the district.
  • Written reports were provided for all other departments and campuses.

Action Items
  • Safe and Supportive School Program team formerly known as the behavioral assessment team (BAT) to serve at each campus was approved.
  • Certificates of election for single member district 1 - Larry Thayn, single member district 4 - Jeremy Hill, single member district 5 - Charlotte Kneupper, and single member district 6 - Kristina Patton were issued by the school board.
  • The Oath of Office was administered to new trustees affirming their faithful execution of their duties in the office of trustee.
  • Reorganization of the school board was conducted and the following were voted in as officers: President - Charlotte Kneupper, Vice-President - Alison Judkins, and Secretary - Lilly Edwards.
  • Three resolutions were approved as legislative priorities for the 89th session.
  • A science teacher was approved for hiring at the Comfort Middle School.
